We begin in the opposite place to many other pain management therapies – I look for where your body is functional, responsive and comfortable instead of focusing on what’s ‘wrong’ with you.

Ortho-Bionomy was developed by Canadian osteopath and Judo master, Dr. Arthur Lincoln Pauls. Pauls was inspired during his osteopathic training in England to develop techniques that would initiate change by stimulating the body’s own healing processes and avoiding the high-velocity thrust techniques and force manipulations commonly used.  His studies in Judo and ancient healing practices also taught him the value of going with the body’s flow instead of opposing it.

Ortho-Bionomy is therefore based on principles of non-force, non-judgement, less is more and allowing the body to change at its own pace. By doing less ‘to’ your body we allow it to find its own way back to natural postural balance as the foundation for authentic wellbeing.

When you work with me, I support you to be your own wellbeing expert. By connecting with our body’s self-healing intelligence there is no need for forceful manipulations, ‘cracking’ of joints or deep pressure on painful ‘trigger points’. There’s no longer a place for the old beliefs that the practitioner always knows better than the patient, or that you must submit to treatments that hurt or feel wrong in some way because you’re ‘not the expert’.

Instead my highest priority is that you feel safe while we work together, letting your body be the guide.  This gentle approach addresses all levels of your being – physical, emotional, mental, energetic. It helps release the ‘charge’ of stress stored in your body – in your cells – from negative emotions and memories which are often the real source of our physical pain and tension – all without having to talk about it.

This means you can leave behind the distress and lingering influence of your past experiences without needing to revisit them verbally and without the potential for retraumatization. Research shows that working with the body to create relaxation and a feeling of safety helps people recover from negative experiences better than talk-therapy alone.
