How to Stop Period Pain Part 1

(Read Part 2 here)

Do you - or your daughter or friend - have bad periods? For many women period pain can be unbearable - and painkillers don’t even touch the sides. And maybe it comes with back pain, vomiting, depressed or anxious feelings, like your brain and body are against you. I hear you - I was there throughout my teens and 20s. I wish I’d known then what I know now! Luckily I can share the solutions I’ve found with you, to help you have easy periods from now on.

First, give your body the right nutrients

  1. Eat as much meat and animal fat as you want.

Think eggs, butter, beef, lamb, bacon, cream and full-fat cheese and yoghurt. Our bodies need the fat and protein in these natural foods to make our hormones, including the hormones that control your period. We’ve been fed a lie since the 1960s that the good fats in these foods - which humans have eaten for around 2 million years - are harmful to us. The fact is, animal fats have never been harmful to human health (or to the environment!). In fact, many women who eat a plants-only diet (i.e. no animal foods) lose their periods completely. We especially need to eat more fat in the 2 weeks between ovulation and the next period - this fat provides the nutrients we need to create an easy pain-free period. And eating these natural fats doesn’t make you fat - that lie was and still is spread by the multinational sugar and processed food companies that want you addicted to their products. Experiment with adding meat, eggs and butter in your daily meals through your next cycle and see if you have less pain and other symptoms. Even cheap cuts of meat like minced/ground beef are perfectly safe and highly nutritious.

  2. Skip the sugar and grains.

Sugar, sweet foods (even fruit and honey), anything made from grains (that’s wheat, corn, rice, millet, barley, rye - all of them) are not worth the money we spend on them. If you have them in your cupboard and can afford to, toss them in the rubbish bin - they have no nutritional value and they harm your health. A diet high in these carbohydrates (and toxic seed oils) causes dangerously high blood glucose and insulin levels which in turn cause inflammation throughout our bodies and brains. This can disrupt the menstrual cycle, creating the irregular periods, pain and other symptoms many women experience as PMS, PMDD, possibly even endometriosis and adenomyosis. Many doctors now even believe that PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) is another form of diabetes. So switching to a high (animal) fat/low-carbohydrate way of eating will help to reduce your symptoms and restore balance to your cycle.

Next, get your pelvis into balance

Pelvic balance makes a BIG difference to your periods - if you have uneven tension patterns in the muscles and joints of your pelvis, it can create tension around your ovaries and uterus that can disrupt their functioning. If you want to know more about how this works, read How to Stop Period Pain Part 2 here. Ortho-Bionomy is an effective way to address pelvic imbalance because it gently activates your body’s ability to self-correct, reducing tension and restoring natural joint alignment.

This young woman shares her experience of how Ortho-Bionomy stopped her period pain and restored balance to her cycles:

“ Before having Ortho-Bionomy sessions with Janine I was suffering from strong period pain every month. I was seeing Janine for chronic neck tension and I was really surprised when she said Ortho-Bionomy could help with period pain and PMS. Then I came to see her once when I was in real pain with my period and I was delighted by the immediate results of her gentle work - the pain was gone by the end of the session. After feeling these amazing benefits I decided to see Janine regularly to help reduce the imbalance responsible for my pain. After a few sessions I now enjoy pain-free cycles!”
